A Peak District Wedding – Hannah & Jason

A bonus of living where I do is that a Peak District wedding is never far away. In October 2024, it was the High Peak towns of New Mills & Whaley Bridge.

October weddings have certain connotations. Spooky Halloween themes, or autumnal weather. But in my experience it can be a lovely time to get married. The weather is surprisingly sunny and mild, with blue skies galore!

It was the same for Hannah & Jason – a beautiful autumn day with glorious weather.

The ceremony took place at New Mills Town Hall, a hidden gem in the Peak District.

The outside of the building has a lovely aesthetic – local bricks topped with the green doors and trim. It fits perfectly into its surroundings, with most of the town built traditional from local stone too. And the views speak for themselves!

Inside the building is great too. It was my first time shooting there and was relieved, because the sunlight was streaming through its large windows.

The light spilled throughout the room, reflected on the wooden floor.

The ceremony means you need to be in focus and fast – and with so much natural light this was a photographer’s dream!

Outside was just as nice. With the sun out, and the hills in the distance, shooting was a breeze. Before we left for the reception, the portraits, groups and confetti were done in good spirits and with minimal waiting around.

Afterwards, we arrived at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club where the rounds were gotten and the buffet unveiled. But there was less light inside the club for sure.

But the grounds outside more than made up for it – plenty of light and space! This gave me the chance to take a dramatic couples portrait with the full splendour of the Peak District immediately behind the couple.

Beautiful.

Very much looking forward to the next time I get to shoot a Peak District wedding!
